Tips to Win and Retain your Core Customers

5 Tips to Win & Retain Customers

Know Your Brand

The secret that many companies continue to miss when attracting customers is having a clear vision of what their brand stands for and how it is communicated in the market. You need to know what wins customers over to begin with. To do so, you have to answer the following questions:

What sets you apart from competitors?

What is your unique selling point?

When you know how to sell your services in a way that adds value to your brand name, you will find it much easier to build a loyal customer base.

Set Yourself Apart

Once you know your brand, you have to make it visible. Otherwise, you will never generate interest to win over that first round of customers. Create a window to the soul of your brand, whether that is visible signage, social media accounts, blogs, or another form of online presence.

Soon, you will have people purchasing your services or goods. That is when you move onto the final step of winning more customers by using the loyal base—you stimulate word-of-mouth recommendations by asking for testimonials and reviews.

Target Your Marketing

Never take a generic approach. Just like you have to be 100% certain of your brand and what you offer, you also have to be completely aware of who you are targeting. Knowing who the ideal customer is helps you fabricate a buyer’s journey that will adequately meet their needs and aid in their decision to use your services and/or goods.

Keep Customers Happy

Proactive engagement with customers is another step to retention. In other words, the cycle of winning customers and retaining them does not begin and end with them handing you money. Taking care of existing customers is not only cheaper for you (because you have to market less), it will help you make more money in the end. Loyal customers eventually end up buying additional products or services.

So what do you do? Offer partnerships, affiliate programs, and other bonuses to loyal customers. Give them ways to refer new customers to you, and then reward them for it. Depending on the nature of your business, you might even want to set up relationships with these existing customers by speaking to or mailing to them directly (i.e. newsletters and follow-ups) to find out what more you could do for them.

Value Experience Above All Else

Customer experience (also known as user experience or UX) never used to be that big of an issue. However, with the power of choice given to the customer and a desire to have incredible experiences every single time they buy something, companies have to step up to the plate. Without giving customers joy and satisfaction every time they interact with your brand and whatever service you provide, you will not win their affection nor their business later on.

Dominate the market by providing amazing service that is an experience from start to finish. It doesn’t matter if competitors offer cheaper services or products as long as your product or service provides more value and in a way that makes you easy to do business with.

How to win customer trust

Here are the 5 principles to winning customer trust:

  1. Acknowledging when it breaks and doing better.

The first thing to understand about building customer trust is what happens when it breaks. Some customers will be dissatisfied and never return. They may tell you in a survey, or they may not. But some customer reactions to broken trust can venture beyond dissatisfaction into the realm of disvalue.

Disvalue is a bigger threat than dissatisfaction. Disvalue can trigger protests, revenge behaviors, rule-bending, social media firestorms, lawsuits, and digital vigilantism. Conduct in business as you would in your personal life—be accountable, open to evolution, and invested in the well-being of those with whom you interact.

When she talks, I hear the revolution: It’s no longer enough to hold the line

Consumers are driving the next great social change via their wallets, and no amount of advertising, PR, or marketing budget can overcome the power of consumers committed to purpose.

  1. Build trust by matching perceptions and intentions.

Your intention may be to create amazing experiences for your customers. But if customers disagree that you’re delivering “amazing,” then you’re not in sync.

For example, let’s say you intend to make it easier for your customers to do business with you. Behind the scenes, extra steps are being added to the customer’s account registration, verification, or check-out process. If that happens, your intention to create an amazing, easy shopping experience probably won’t match your customers’ perceptions of the experience. Extra steps add hassle to the experience, not ease, which erodes trust.

Consider your actions and their impact on both your process and customers, by evaluating both sides to avoid unforced errors and foster more meaningful relationships.

Improving the customer experience in 2021: A CX checklist

Improving the customer experience is mission critical for brands in 2021. Here’s a checklist to help you make your CX resolutions — and keep them.

  1. Keep your eye on the ball (also known as the CX data).

You need a mix of operational data and customer feedback data to really understand the story of your customers’ experiences with your company. If you’re addressing CX in your business as a regular practice, then you’re already reviewing that data set with your team at a regular rhythm and cadence.

This data set may include customer data collected with consent from your customer data platform (CDP).

However, during times of organizational transformation, it can be easy to take a break from triaging customer data with a team. And that’s exactly when you can miss the early warning signs of waning customer trust.

Make it a priority to review customer experience data. You could try a recurring calendar entry and establish ways of recognizing the individuals and processes that made the difference in CX.

What is Customer Data Platform? Can it improve CX?

A customer data platform is software designed to make sense of your customer data so you can engage with them on a more personal, effective (and valuable) level. But what does that mean for marketers? Executives? Customers? How do CDPs change their experiences?

  1. Measure customer trust.

Yes, you can measure customer trust!

Keep in mind that trust is not the same as customer satisfaction or customer effort—two standard things companies often ask about in customer feedback surveys.

But if you’re asking questions about satisfaction and ease, for example, then why not ask about trust, too? It doesn’t have to be complicated to start. There are many ways to ask the question. The point is to care enough to ask. Then, monitor and triage the scores. The act of following up on responses is a valuable touchpoint and can lead to more insight.

  1. Context is everything with customer trust.

Many people automatically divert to the idea that customer trust is about what is happening in your digital channels. Or that trust is about what’s happening behind the scenes to protect a customer’s data.

Trust can be built or broken from details like the language used on an application form that customers fill out before receiving services.

If the form is excessively long, contains jargon, or the flow doesn’t make sense, then the opposite–distrust–is happening.

The same is true if you hide or omit contact information on your website. How can customers trust your business if it seems you’re hiding something?

We can all help our loved ones and community members get through crisis. But as we take action to support others, it is also vital that we take the time to support and care for ourselves. This page shares tips and resources to help you practice self-care.

The Importance of Self-Care

While you are supporting and helping someone who may be in crisis, it is especially important for you to also take care of yourself. Practicing self-care does not mean you are choosing yourself over your loved one. It means that you are simply being mindful of your own needs, so you are better able to support the people you care about. When you take care of yourself and are not stressed, you are better able to meet the needs of others.

Self-care comes in a variety of forms. It does not require an elaborate plan; self-care can be as simple as taking a deep breath when you notice you are becoming stressed. By maintaining your physical and mental health, you will likely be better equipped to handle the stressors that come along with supporting someone you care about.

Take a look at this list, and check in with yourself. It’s important and healthy to acknowledge your limits.

Do you feel…

  • Anxious or full of worry?
  • Unable to concentrate?
  • Achy or sick more than usual?
  • Sad or generally unhappy?
  • Overwhelmed and constantly worried?
  • Irritable or short tempered?
  • Tired often?
  • Lonely or alone?

Are you having trouble…

  • Remembering things?
  • Relaxing?
  • Getting your work done?
  • Making good decisions?

Have you…

  • Used alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs to “feel better”?
  • Been sleeping too much or too little?
  • Been eating too much or too little?
  • Gained or lost weight?
  • Isolated yourself from friends and family?
  • Neglected responsibilities?
  • Lost interest in activities you used to enjoy?

These can all be signs and symptoms of stress. If you think stress-overload might be affecting your life, there is something you can do about it.

Self-Care Strategies for Managing Stress

Self-care, as the word itself suggests, is what we do to take care of ourselves. When we get stressed out, we tend to ignore the very things that might make us feel better, so it is important to find time to take care of yourself.

Remain socially connected. When you are supporting someone else, it can be easy to lose sight of your other social connections. It is important stay in touch with your family and friends who can offer support. Set aside some time each week to spend time with others in your support network.

7 Ways to Start Enjoying Healthy Food

Leading a healthy lifestyle is a challenge. It requires time and effort. People often feel it’s beyond their reach and that it’s even impractical.

Busy lifestyles take a toll on our energy levels, so there’s little incentive to skip the convenient junk food and replace it with healthier eating habits.

  • It’s hart to let go of the junk food as it’s readily available – and let’s not kid ourselves – it tastes great.
  • Others restrict themselves to a limited range of what they consider healthy food – kale, kale and more kale! But a boring diet is a struggle to maintain long-term.
  • Here are Seven Tips and Tricks that Will Help You Enjoy a Nutritious Diet.

Eating nutritious, wholesome food and enjoying it is not an unreasonable goal.

    1. Change your mindset.

Associations that often come with a balanced diet include:

    • It’s expensive.
    • It’s time consuming.
    • The taste is bland.

If you keep these notions at the forefront of your mind, you’ll never be motivated enough to change your lifestyle.

Think for a moment – is all of that actually true? Or, are we simply accustomed to believing so.

We have many interesting and delicious options that are healthy. Nature has blessed us with a huge variety of wholesome, exciting and delicious foods.

    2. Be in the know.

Educate yourself. What is healthy food?

Learn which food groups you should eat more of, which ones you should eat less of and which ones you should avoid altogether.

Investigating the damaging effects of unhealthy food on your body is a motivating factor in itself to make the switch to fresher options.

Also read: Here’s how to start enjoying exercise.

Research what’s available in your community.

    • Where can you buy wholesome, fresh ingredients?
    • Are there any pre-prepared or healthy dining alternatives in your area?

The internet is a powerful tool. You’ll be surprised at the options available to you with just a bit of effort to find them.

    3. Desensitize your taste for the unhealthy.

    Let’s state the obvious

. Unhealthy food tastes great. We become addicted to it because when we first taste something great, we’ll eat more and more of it until other foods pale in comparison.

Train yourself to appreciate the natural flavors of wholesome food, while gradually phasing out tastes from unhealthy options, and you’ll stop craving them.

The easiest way to appreciate healthy food is to take a moment after every bite and feel what the food does to your body. When you are done eating, you should feel more energized than before. If you feel like you need to rest after a meal – you either ate too much or you ate poor quality food.

    4. Know yourself.

If you’ve experienced difficulties in resisting the deep-fried, sugary delights available everywhere, then guess what? You’re normal. Those foods are designed to hook out sugar-thirsty souls.

Don’t shock your system with a sudden, extreme diet adjustment. Pace yourself and know your limits.

Quitting your favorite, less-than-wholesome foods all in one go poses a greater risk of failure.

If you crave unhealthy food – fries for example – go ahead, satisfy the urge and eat some – just make sure not to take the jumbo pack. Depriving yourself of what you desire will only hurt you in the long run.

Instead, take steps you know you can confidently handle. Reduce unhealthy options in appropriate measures for your own body.

Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself though. You can do it!

    5. Be adventurous.

Eating healthy food doesn’t mean boiled, tasteless and repetitive food on your plate day after day.

Try new flavors. Experiment with different ingredients. Investigate other ways of preparing a dish. Break free from pre-instilled notions of how food is prepared.

    6. Mix and match.

Sometimes we need a bit of trickery to make progress, because when it comes to food, we’ve all got a trace of that child-like quality of turning our noses up at the green gunk on out plates.

Trick your mind into enjoying the healthier options on the menu by paring them with better tasting (albeit less healthy) options in moderate portions.

Gradually and subtly cut out the unhealthy accompaniments, and your brain won’t know the difference!

    7. Variety is the spice of life.

A healthy diet ticks all the boxes on the nutrition chart.

When you’ve done your research into what constitutes healthy food, you’ll see that the options are endless. You don’t have to stick to the same food continually.

Design a weekly meal plan that contains a variety of foodstuffs, and alter your meal plan regularly.

Your body will love you for filling it with wholesome, revitalizing fare that will keep it in prime condition, and your mind will be at ease knowing that you’re leading a healthier, more positive way of life.

What Are You Grateful For? – Your Responses

What Are You Grateful For – Your Responses

2020 changed everything. In a year that felt at times like a bizarre, dystopian nightmare, many of our usual privileges were ripped away from us.

And yet people danced from their balconies, hung rainbows in their windows, and clapped for key workers. As we were ordered to “stay at home,” we baked banana bread, waved to our neighbors, and played board games.

Despite all the doom and gloom, we developed gratitude, and learned to appreciate the little things.

Why Is Gratitude Important?

Being grateful doesn’t simply mean putting on a brave face or pretending all is right with the world. Instead, gratitude helps you to connect with your surroundings and appreciate even the smallest positives.

Gratitude enables you to approach problems with a fresh and positive mindset. In fact, studies have shown that gratitude can help you to manage stress, sleep better, and even fight illness and disease.

When it feels as if the world is tumbling into chaos, gratitude is key to remaining centered and finding joy in the ordinary.

What Are You Grateful For?

For many, lockdown has been a chance to slow down and take stock of what really matters. So, we took to social media to find what you, our friends and followers, are grateful for. Here’s a selection of your responses:

A Roof Over Your Head

A common theme was having a place to call “home.” As lockdown hit, our houses and apartments became schools, offices, gyms, and cinemas. Dining tables transformed into desks, and gardens became more valuable than ever.

Twitter follower Shruti Deshpande described being “grateful for the basics… a safe home, warm food on the table.”

For many, lockdown has been a lonely experience. Facebook friend Davina Woods found comfort in her home. “As an orphaned, widowed empty-nester, becoming more content with my house and seeing it as a home for my pets, plants and myself is what I am grateful for in 2020.”

Virtual Connections

If you’re anything like me, you’ll have sworn at your patchy Wi-Fi or slammed your laptop shut in frustration on more than one occasion.

But for all the grief that technology causes us, it has undoubtedly become a lifeline in this past year. Not only has it kept many in work, but it has also provided much-needed social connections.

LinkedIn follower Kath P. has found it “… vital to have that alternate way to maintain human connectedness and overcome the negative impact of isolation.”

Grateful For Family

Unsurprisingly, time spent with loved ones has been in high demand lately. Lockdown has helped many of us to appreciate the privilege of family and the value of good friends.

Twitter follower Susmitha Manav described the “simple joys of being together.” And on LinkedIn, Joshua Hardy was grateful for the opportunity to connect with his family. “We have spent more time together and have built stronger bonds with each other.”

Small Acts of Kindness

But gratitude isn’t a one-way street. You can help to cultivate gratitude in others with “random acts of kindness.” Sending a bunch of flowers, helping a busy co-worker, or taking time to listen to a friend in need, are small but powerful ways to show your appreciation and help others to see the positives in their own lives.

4 Leadership Qualities to Strive For in 2021

Leadership Qualities to Strive For in 2021

In the year since the pandemic hit, the most successful business leaders have placed the needs of employees ahead of themselves. As we move farther into 2021, the best leaders will continue to inspire, motivate and empower their team — while also showing team members that they believe in them.

This is a management style often referred to as “servant leadership” (read more about this in my previous article, “3 Surprising Business Opportunities That Arose in a No-Good Year“). Those that practice servant leadership have a competitive advantage over those that do not.

What qualities do you need to practice servant leadership? I talked to entrepreneurs from all walks of life to see how they were managing during the pandemic. While this isn’t a definitive list, I’ve put together a few traits that they’ve used to better inspire their teams and stay on track with growing their business in the ever-changing world ahead.

Purpose, for many businesses, is found in its core values. Every business has its own set of values, which may range from respect to perseverance to courage — or all of the above and more.

Following core values helps guide businesses and leaders alike. Leaders have a better understanding of how to respond and make decisions in and out of a crisis because of these core values.

Further, when a leader leans on company values it helps reassure other team members. Leaders that focus on values and practice them create a domino effect with employees, inspiring them to follow suit. Focus, not fear, guides us out of difficult times and into seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.

The importance of good communication became paramount for leaders to share with others in 2020.

What happens in a workplace where there is poor communication? In the absence of good communication, team members may speculate about what is really happening within an organization. Gossip about a worst-case scenario could spread like wildfire — and that scenario isn’t based on the truth.

Leaders need to continue practicing transparency in 2021 and beyond, especially with distributed teams. This ensures that everyone has the right information no matter where they work and feels engaged with the company.

Transparency does more than help communicate the necessary facts to team members. Arming employees with the facts allow them to feel more confidence, trust and support within the business.

Taking Risks In Life Let You Achieve More

Taking Risks In Life Let You Achieve More

No matter how small or great the thing that you are looking to achieve are, road blocks and bottlenecks are common, these should never be considered as an obstacle towards your journey to success.

Looking to turn a dream into reality and wondering where to start? Irrespective of what the objective is, be passionate and confident. Only those who are ready to take risk will be able to achieve something in life.

Get out of your comfort zone and try things that are risky. Everybody who is successful today has had a phase of life were things were challenging and risky thus “Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.”

Higher Risk = Higher Return

Just like the formula, higher risk is equal to risk return, the more you are ready to take risk, the probability of gaining benefits are high. It’s good if you can find obstacles in the early stage of your work, it gives ample time to investigate the issue and find resolution along with meeting your objective.

All those who have been successful till date, has a story of risk that has changed their life altogether. Miracles don’t happen by themselves, it is created with our actions.

Even when all doors look closed, there will be one that is open to fix the problem. It is through continuous patience and perseverance this can be determined.

Failure is a Stepping Stone

Just like the saying “Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly”, be ready to dare and challenge yourself. Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever does.

Be confident and encouraged to face the challenges that come your way, this will help you to see and think beyond what is normal.

Be smart and confident and take the dare now to make a difference in life. By waiting good things might come to you some day, but with perseverance- it is sure you will reap benefits. Of course, there are chances of you failing in first few attempts but without learning through failure, you cannot be the best.

Set your goals high to help you feel empowered to try hard when failed. Just like a mustard seed that grows to be one of the largest tree, it is not in the size, it all in the effort. Once you achieve your goals, set another one that is more challenging.

Once you start considering challenges as opportunity, every opportunity will be your reward. Do you have a desire to try something new and worried about its outcome, then that is a failure in your life.

“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly”, there are many living example right around you to prove this statement is true. Do something today with a slight amount of risk and reach the target.

Once achieved, raise the bars and step into more risky ones. It is important to understand what your limits and capabilities are, never give a chance to others to determine your limits. Also perseverance should never end.

No matter how small or big things are, take it as a challenge and turn every obstacle into an opportunity. Other things that are important are your attitude, mindset, awareness and how courageous you are. Take risk and be challenged to make the difference.

A lot of things around you can contribute to you and motivate but until it comes from within, it is impossible to achieve anything in life. Small or big, take the first step towards success today.
